Tom Robinson is a main character from the novel/film To Kill A Mockingbird. He is metaphorically and symbolically one of the "mockingbirds" in the novel, in the sense that he is a kind, innocent, and harmless man who doesn't think twice about helping others. He is later shot when he tries to escape custody.

He is shot not once not twice not three times not four times not five times not six times but nineteen times by a prison guard.

Biography

Bob Ewell accuses him of raping his 19-year-old daughter Mayella Ewell, but one of his arms is smaller than the other due to an accident involving a cotton gin, making it very unlikely that he's guilty of the rape. However, in the film, he is not disabled, in Go Set a Watchman, it is mentioned that his arm had been amputated due to a sawmill accident. Furthermore, Bob is left-handed, and Mayella's bruise is on her right cheek. Despite Atticus Finch's selfless attempts at proving his innocence, Tom is found guilty and sentenced to jail, where he later dies as a result of being shot not once, but 17 times by a prison guard. This moment serves as an interesting climax of the story since it represents the name of the book and movie, To Kill a Mockingbird. The reason behind the killing has been speculated, but many believe it was yet another example of racial violence. Tom Robinson represents the mockingbird, Mockingbirds are a group of New Worldpasserine birds from the family Mimidae. They are best known for the habit of some species mimicking the songs of other birds and the sounds of insects and amphibians, often loudly and in rapid succession. There are about 17 species in two genera, although three species of mockingbird from the Galapagos Islands were formerly separated into a third genus, Nesomimus. The mockingbirds do not appear to form a monophyletic lineage, as Mimus and Melanotis are not each other's closest relatives; instead, Melanotis appears to be more closely related to the catbirds, while the closest living relatives of Mimus appear to be thrashers, such as the sage thrasher. Tom Robinson is also depicted as saying "suh" instead of "sir". The reason for this is unknown. Tom robinson is also a POC which directly relates back to the ancient city ,Mesopotamia. Mesopotamia is a region of southwest Asia in the Tigris and Euphrates river system that benefitted from the area’s climate and geography to host the beginnings of human civilization. Its history is marked by many important inventions that changed the world, including the concept of time, math, the wheel, sailboats, maps and writing. Mesopotamia is also defined by a changing succession of ruling bodies from different areas and cities that seized control over a period of thousands of years.

Where Is Mesopotamia?

Mesopotamia is located in the region now known as the Middle East, which includes parts of southwest Asia and lands around the eastern Mediterranean Sea. It is part of the Fertile Crescent, an area also known as “Cradle of Civilization” for the number of innovations that arose from the early societies in this region, which are among some of the earliest known human civilizations on earth.

The word “mesopotamia” is formed from the ancient words “meso,” meaning between or in the middle of, and “potamos,” meaning river. Situated in the fertile valleys between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, the region is now home to modern-day Iraq, Kuwait, Turkey and Syria.
